I’m always grateful to find solutions to small problems, and I recently found one that made me quite happy. Kudos to The Geek Goddess for figuring it out for all of us. The problem I had was that my Google ReCaptcha box was extending outside my div intended to contain it. The solution was to use two CSS properties, transform: scale(0.8) and transform-origin: 0.0. This combo offered me the option to scale the element to exactly the size I needed and will prove useful for other reasons in the future, I’m sure. Spencer Aircraft and SIM Flight Center are an up and coming pair of companies based in Puyallup, WA, that are focused on putting pilots in the air and equipping them with the best stuff up there. Recently the companies needed new branding materials to advertise their products and services at trade shows and on the web.
The South Bay Women’s Network, a group of professional women promoting each others’ business and personal activities in and around Los Osos, CA, needed a website redesign. “While our old site is ‘homey,’ which is part of our group’s appeal, it is very static,” the redesign request stated. “We want to offer our members a dynamic site that will help them network better through postings, a changing calendar, online newsletters, surveys, membership directory and possibly online luncheon reservation service.”
Another major concern was keeping the site user-centered, but also easy to update from a website administrator’s point of view. The group had used WordPress before and was most interested in using that platform to accomplish their goals. Working closely with a key member of the group, I was able to help them build exactly what they wanted without spending a ton of money.

The Business Examiner, in Tacoma, WA, is the leading business news publication in Pierce County. They were in need of editorial page design on a regular basis and had heard good things from other clients about my work in this area. After one issue working together, a great relationship formed and I am happy to count them among my most regular customers.
I receive text documents, photos and a set of instructions every two weeks and return a polished, professional InDesign document they proof and then send to their printer. Some examples of the work I’ve done for The Business Examiner is below.
When Meyer Pro Services, a building maintenance company based in Olympia, WA, was ready to create a web presence they wanted something simple to update, reliable and flexible. They had a design, but needed expertise to get it on the web with functionality like photo slideshows and fillable contact forms that can’t be replicated in print.
